Climbing Mt. Wantastiquet allows you to get a unique view of Brattleboro. It was one of the first things I did when I moved here. On a clear day you can see for miles, mountain after mountain, into the distance.
The trail is approximately 2.2 miles (one way). Bring some water and a snack. Or a packed lunch for when you reach the top.
It takes about an hour or so to go up, and a little less to go down. It depends on how you handle steep inclines, and if you like to poke along and look at nature, or just walk fast.
At the parking you will see two orange iron gates. Proceed around the upper gate and begin to ascend a rocky old road. There are 9 switchbacks, then a small clearing on a rocky outcrop on your right. This is where there is a view!
To get there: Cross over from Brattleboro. Just after the steel bridge over the Connecticut River, turn left and drive about .2 mile to the parking area (marked by two granite posts).
