The Common Ground Frees The Food
    Monday, April 21 2003 @ 02:09 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: iBrattleboro

FoodThe Common Ground Restaurant, located at 25 Elliot St in Brattleboro, VT has been serving up delicious organic food for lo these many years. And the good people of the Common Ground have a message for Brattleboro -- the food is free:

We, of the Common Ground have become aware that a lot of you in the local community may not have a very clear idea of what we are up to. Some of you may not know that we continue to exist. Reports of our impending death made the front page of the Brattleboro Reformer. The fact that we did not die and are still very much alive has not been so well reported.

We want you to know that a strong and liberated heart still beats in Brattleboro. We want you to know that six days a week, we are offering free food and a resting place to all, shelter from the constant insanity of the corporate, capitalistic world, and an opportunity to join with others who hope to provide an alternative.

First and foremost we serve food, since we believe that no one ought to struggle and suffer to obtain nourishment. We provide live acoustic music with many of our meals and a venue for bands of many sorts. Shows happen 2-4 nights a week. We provide an environment where participation is encouraged, contributions are honored, and creativity is welcomed at the door.

We are proud of what we have to offer and invite you to come up and check us out.

We are open Tuesday through Sunday, serving lunch and dinner every day but Wednesday when we serve our free Youth Dinner from 3:30 on. On Sundays, we have Brunch from 11-2. Live music is scheduled during brunch and most dinners. Stop by for a schedule of musical events, and to look at our menu of delicious, mostly organic foods.

    To sum up:

We resist a world where animals are tortured, vegetables and fruits are reduced to chemicals, and humans are degraded into consumers. Once, our daily labor produced our daily bread. Food was life, used as needed. Food is now mass produced by corporatations who level the forests and pollute the waters. We are poisoned. Creation is dying.

    Love is Resistance!

All our food is vegetarian and organic as we can make it. Meals are free. Donations are happily accepted.

The Common Ground, 25 Elliot St, Brattleboro, VT -- Phone: (802) 257-0855

    Thanks!

The Common Ground Frees The Food
    Authored by: javanyet on Tuesday, June 10 2003 @ 06:12 PM GMT+4
The Common Ground now serves free food to beat the meals tax. They didn't find any way to beat the electric bills and so lost their power. If it was run like a business, or even a real co-op, they wouldn't have these problems. Having successfully owned my own business, a small and shoestring one, I have no sympathy with one that operates like a freestyle club and then blames the "system" for their problems.

When things are going well, those in charge point proudly to the all-volunteer staff. When things fall apart, the same people are held up as reasons for the bad management. If I were a volunteer there I would take issue with that approach!
