The creation of the Brattleboro Community Police Board is a pro-police and pro-taxpayer initiative and similar successful and time tested ones operate in over seventy percent of small and large cities throughout the US.
ADVANTAGES:
Cost effective – Reducing costs to town by more efficient use of tax dollars
Increase Confidence – Improved confidence by having independent citizen participation.
Improved Communication- Providing consistent communication between citizens& BPD
The board would consist of a representative of the police department and citizens of Brattleboro. It would provide an on-going periodic evaluation of the police department’s operations, foster community relations and involve the community as active partners in advising and dialoging with the BPD on operations and procedures, and be able to investigate complaints of police misconduct and ways to remediate it
