Are Europeans Smarter than Americans? Or Does It Just Look That Way

A recent poll indicates that this presidential race will be a close one, with Bush being supported by 46% to Kerry's 45%. Let me repeat that- 46% of this country would vote for Bush if the election were held today. I guess lying to the American public about why we went to war, losing 2 1/2 million jobs, dismantling environmental protections and turning a budget surplus into a half a trillion dollar deficit by giving tax cuts and loopholes to the rich and to corporations doesn't bother half of the country.

Just to be clear: the deficit is the difference between what the government brings in and what it spends IN ONE YEAR.

Operating in deficits for an extended period of time leads to a national DEBT. Right now that debt is seven trillion dollars, thanks to all the deficits under Reagan and the first President Bush. (yes, we're still carrying that debt from that era). The only way to get rid of it is to operate at a surplus long enough to pay it off. We were headed down that path under Clinton/Gore, but now the surplus has been squandered deficits have returned, pushing us further back in the other direction. By the way, you are now paying 300 billion dollars per year in INTEREST on that 7 trillion dollar debt. And 46% of us are supporting four more years of Bush.

There are a few other facts which characterize our society, such as the popularity of reality tv, britney spears music, ect. that has led to a conclulsion on my part that the perception that europeans, canadians and austalians are smarter than americans is accurate. what do you think?
