ISP's in the Area? (Adelphia Sucks!)

I'm a computer technician and consultant, and like many of us these days - am pretty dependant upon the internet.

And since I'm often downloading huge patches and software updates for clients, I must have broadband.

I've long been a SoverNet customer, and think they are a great company. Unfortunately, their broadband (ADSL) is not available in my area since my house/office is on the very edges of town.

So my only affordable choice for broadband has been Adelphia. And anybody who has it knows, Adelphia *really* sucks. Their network goes down an average of 2x a week, usually just for a couple of hourse, but sometimes more. If somebody is just getting on the internet at home after a 9-5 job for a couple of hours every day . . . you may not notice it much. But when you are off and on the internet all day long? Adelphia has the worst service I've ever experienced, or even heard of from my clients.

My clients who are on Adelphia all lose their connection often too, but since most work out of the home - it doesn't torture them quite like it does me!

I guess its not suprising. Adelphia's founders and CEO's are right now in the same courthouse that Martha Stewart was, for massive embezzeling and fraud. And s**t does flow downhill, so it follows that the whole company would suck.

They have been in chapter 11 for nearly two years now as well. I'm just hoping that somebody will swoop in and buy their assets (and customer base) and make them reliable!

They really have those of us who don't live close to town on a rail, because other high speed options are not available (unless you are a millionare). And therefore I continue to be ripped off by them. And I pay for a SoverNet dial-up account as well, as a backup so that when Adelphia is down for extended periods - I can at least check email.

Anyways, the point of this story is only 1/2 to whine . . . the other 1/2 is to see what other Adelphia users here are experiencing (should we start a class action suit?). And also to hear about other options available/becoming available (satellite isn't really an option for me because of latency issues). I've setup Pinetree cable for a couple of folks across the river (NH) and it seems more reliable - though not quite as fast (when Adelphia IS working - I'm often getting 4000k download speeds! For about $50 a month).

I better send this before it goes down again (they have gone down twice in the last few minutes since I've been typing this!).

Any observations or wisdom?
