I'm writing to ask the community to contact Senator Leahy today regarding rfb and a first amendment awards dinner he is attending tonight. This was triggered by a well-written editorial in the Reformer today that that began:
"U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy is getting well-earned recognition by the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation for his work on behalf of press freedom. He receives the Leadership Award tonight at the foundation's First Amendment Dinner in Washington. The senator certainly deserves the applause as he accepts that award, but our kudos are a bit muffled because we have yet to hear of his work on behalf of radio free brattleboro. The small unlicensed station is trying to remain on the air despite serious big-footing by the Federal Communications Commission, which is trying to shut it down."
It goes on to suggest that Leahy should stand up for rfb at the event tonight.
If you would like to encourage the Senator to use the First Amendment dinner tonight to raise the issue of rfb, you can call his DC office at 202-224-4242. Let them know where you live, and that you are curious why Leahy has remained silent on this issue despite numerous editorials, town actions, and letters to his office.
Thanks.
