That's right, $22,000.00. That's what you owe. This is over and above whatever other personal debts (credit cards, ect. that you may have). That's INDIVIDUALLY. If you are married, then as a couple you owe $44,000.00. If you have children, it is $66,000.00, or $88,000.00, and so on. You may make your check payable to the U. S. Treasury Department in Washington, D. C. You should be able to find the address on the internet.

The method by which this was calculated did not involve any great degree of mathematical wizardry. I simply divided the NATIONAL DEBT ($7.3 Trillion) by the number of people in the United States (290 million). The result? $22,348.69. I decided to cut you some slack and knock off the last $348.69, in case you were having a bad day.

Of course, even if everyone (men, women, children, infants) in the U. S. did this all at once, and even if none of the checks bounced, that would only bring us up to date as of today. One year from now, we would be back in the hole to the tune of half a trillion dollars again, because we are currently operating with a half a trillion dollar ANNUAL BUDGET DEFICIT.

We are a responsible nation, right? We believe in paying people back what we owe them, right? They are legitimate debts. It would be wrong for us to dump this on our grand children and great grandchildren, right? We are a nation that does what's right, aren't we? The home of the free and the brave?

So go ahead, go to your bedroom and get out the checkbook. What's that? You're afraid that the check will bounce? Gee, maybe we should have thought about that before now.
