Ohio Election Fraud Investigation Continues

With all of the talk of tsunami's and getting rid of Social Security, you may wonder if anything is being done about the charges of election fraud in Ohio.

There is.

Just today I got an e-mail from Bernie Sanders in which he says:

"Since Election Day, the House Judiciary Committee has received more than 57,000 complaints of voter fraud. There is an obvious and immediate need for improvement to voting processes in the United States. The right to vote, and have your vote counted, is the foundation of our democracy. Everyone who votes on Election Day must have his or her votes accurately counted.

I recently joined my colleagues in sending a letter to the GAO, asking for an investigation into the thousands of complaints that have been received since the November 2nd election. I am pleased to inform you that the GAO has agreed to investigate certain election processes and technologies, such as voter registration, provisional voting, and the security of voting systems. The GAO will be focusing on broad election administration issues to help inform the Congress in considering potential improvements for future elections. The GAO, however, will not be investigating specific allegations regarding the recent election because they are not authorized to do so. Yet, the thousands and thousands of allegations provided by the House Judiciary Committee will be used to help in identifying the broader issues to be included in their work."

The other interesting turn of events is that there may be a number of Senators gearing up to challenge the Ohio results. In another e-mail making its rounds, we learn this:

"After conducting post-election hearings in Ohio and collecting testimony from thousands of Ohio citizens, Congressional Representative John Conyers sent a letter to all U.S. Senators on December 20, 2004 calling for Congressional Debate on the 2004 Elections on January 6, and expressed the intention of House Members to challenge the Ohio electoral vote. Citizens who are presenting the facts to our U.S. Senators say that 10-15 Senators are seriously considering signing on. THIS IS HISTORIC."

That e-mail goes on to suggest calling Senators Jeffords and Leahy and implies that Jeffords may be thinking about signing on so some encouragement could be useful.

You can reach them at:

Senator James Jeffords (R): 1-800-835-5500
Senator Patrick Leahy (D): 1-800-642-3193

It is important that we have a system of voting that can be trusted. With close elections, it is crucial so that one side cannot manipulate the system to gain from questionable means. It is clear that there are holes in our current system that are being exploited by both major parties, and Republicans in Ohio have tainted the results from their state with questionable practices.

The alternative is to do nothing and allow a corrupt system to remain in place or get worse. Then, at some point, there will be an election result that you disagree with but cannot explain. Maybe it will be President Jenna claiming victory after eight years of Jeb. Perhaps it will be President Chelsea after 8 years of Hillary.

We need fair elections. Our representatives are all we've got, government-wise. They must accurately represent the people and their views. Politicians in office as a result of unfair elections are not truly representative of the people, and their policies are not the policies of the people. Any analysis of how one side lost is flawed and irrelevant without fair elections.

I can respect someone who I disagree with but is elected fairly.

I want fair elections, and hope you do, too.
