The BCTV Board of Directors cannot change programming in any way. Only the Executive Director, Timothy Lindop, can remove a program. I slipped up and didn't ask whether Mr. Lindop can be removed by the Board.
I'm not sure how those Board members who want to remove Democracy Now from the programming expect to use a petition to accomplish that. But detailed rules and regulations should be in the By-Laws. I hope to get to that tomorrow or next week and will report back. I also hope to find out how citizens can get on the Board or the Advisory Committee.
At the moment, we can help ensure that all kinds of opinions are heard on our community television station by attending the Board meetings which are public meetings. They take place the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 PM in the Hanna Cosman Room in the Municipal Center. The presence of the public can have an amazing effect on the actions and decisions of any board. I intend to be at their next meeting and hope that others will join me.
