Turkish performer/artist Chaglayan Senvincer arrived in New York in 1997 to learn English. When his visa ran out he felt he hadn't finished what he came here to do, so he settled in Brattleboro to work with puppeteers. In 2000 he called immigration authorities and turned himself in. In this interview with Lisa Kuneman, he talks about his experiences, the legal process and the significant support he has received from area friends and colleagues, as he awaits a January 20th hearing in Boston.
In addition, Lisa will talk with local attorney Jim Maxwell. Jim has assisted Caglayan with legal advice, and is one of many community members who feel that Chaglayan's contribution in the community warrants an extended stay.
