Whetstone Pedestrian Bridge Is Open

After years of planning, designing, and wondering if it would ever be finished, the pedestrian bridge connecting the Co-op parking lot with the Flat Street parking lot is completed and in place for the public to use.

Wooden planks form the platform for people on foot and bicycle to cross. Black metal railings keep them from falling in the water.

For those that recall the temporary bridge, the new one is larger. It is wider and feels much more solid. It is a few feet closer to Main Street than the temporary one, but is oriented basically the same way.

The bridge adds another piece to the ongoing effort to connect the train station to the parking garage we call the Transportation Center.

This should relieve a bit of the parking problems for Co-op shoppers. (In related Co-op news, by the way, the latest issue of Food for Thought wishes Lisa Ford well and says that she resigned.)

Next time you are in the area give the new bridge a try and welcome it into service for the town.
