There will be an informational meeting for the public on the proposed C&D Incinerator project in Hinsdale, NH on June 15th from 6:30-8:30 pm. The public meeting will be held at The Church on the corners of Main and Grove Streets in Brattleboro (between the Post Office and the Library).

GenPower, developer of electrical generation plants, proposes building a 40-megawatt electric generation plant fueled almost completely by construction and demolition (C&D) debris and a 750 ton per day C&D processing facility on 30 acres on Monument Road in Hinsdale, NH.

C&D is material left over from demolition, construction, and renovation. Painted, unpainted, and pressure treated wood; plaster; dry wall and gypsum; insulation; roofing material; asphalt (from roads and roofing shingles); and various metals and plastics, among other items. C&D is also salvageable material such as doors, windows, beams, bricks, and plumbing fixtures.

The project, if allowed, will have a significant impact on Brattleboro, as the estimated 400+ truck trips to and from the plant per day will travel through Brattleboro. There are also serious environmental and public issues to be considered.

The meeting will include a panel presentation. Panelists include Vermont State Representative and River Steward David Deen, and Windham Regional Commission Executive Director Jim Matteau. After the brief presentations the public will have an opportunity to ask questions and make comments.

For information call Audrey Garfield at 254-5531 or Rich Garant at 257-1589.
