According to Selectman Spoon Agave, the judge assigned to the special election case ruled for the town, and against the special election petitioners. According to the judge, the town acted properly in blocking citizen efforts to call a special election according to rules outlined in the VT State Statute.

Citizens calling for the special election had argued that since the VT Statute permits special elections to fill Selectboard vacancies, the citizens of Brattleboro had that right despite ambiguities in the town charter that neither mandated nor ruled out such an election.

The judge believed otherwise. More to follow, when we receive the text of the ruling from the town.
