they are climbing the rocks
so many have perished in these waters
still the day sun burning their young skin
hand pulls after fingers gripping the edges
up high they stand
tall and straight
I love them for their boldness
their youth
then a sudden turn of fate
they jump off the water falls
we hold our breath
no one appears
I cry
time stops
my tears are dry
my eyes swollen
we wait
every parent waits
we read how they searched
for hours
the water has a trap in the rocks
it holds for far too long
tears jump out of my eyes
straight out in an arch
I am past sad
