What ever happened to that guy (Jeff?) who owned the Elliot st Grocer? Someone told me he died of a heart attack, another person said he moved to NYC with some girl he met (of all friggin places!).
Just came back to town recently I was kind of saddened to see that place gone. He was a really nice guy kind of an "old Brattleboro" icon. Jeff used to let it slide when I didn't have enough money for a sugar fix when I was a kid. I can also remember him extending my mother credit when there was no food on the table. I went into the new store, and was greeted (not really greeted, but grunted at) by an angry Indian guy, I wanted to shout ... "Who the hell are you, and where the hell is Jeff?!"
I just can't picture Jeff owning a store in NYC, if he is there, best of luck to you ole buddy. This town isn't the same without your familiar, caring face.
