Hi, an ocassional visitor to Brattleboro with a no doubt dumb question (not a complaint, a question).
Is McNeil's ever open in the daylight hours? I've enjoyed the beers in bottle several times. But it seems that whenever we are passing through in the daytime, the brewpub is closed.
Mid-August was one incident. We were in town on a sidewalk-sale day. I eagerly anticipated stopping in, trying a responsible number of pints and eating lunch, if such was available.
We discovered that they open at 2PM by asking in the bar next door. So we held off our lunch plans, and came back at 2PM. Nothing. Several other thirsty folks were going up to the entrance and peering in, but no signs of life.
Being determined beer fans, we looked around some more, bought a couple of used CDs, and came back at 2:30. No luck, still more disappointed drinkers peering in.
And again a little after 3:00 (I said "determined"). A Was I missing the secret knock to get in? Was the password "Swordfish" ?

I'd really like to try their beers on draft, but suspect the only way to do that is to stay overnight. Preferably somewhere that's a short stumble away....
