The Future of Our Food Series, Legislative Update, November 16th, 7pm, Christ's Church, Main Street, Saxtons River
On Wednesday November 16th, Rockingham Education and Action for Tomorrow (EAT), in conjunction with the Vermont Genetic Engineering Action Group will host an evening with Vermont State Senators Jeanette White and Rod Gander and State Representitives Carolyn Partridge and Mike Obuchowski.
The focus of this event will be The Farmer Protection Act, a bill under consideration in the Vermont House.
Passing the Vermont Senate last year 27-1, The Farmer Protection Act would protect all Vermont farmers by holding the manufacturers of genetically-engineered seed strictly liable for economic damages caused by their products. Importantly, this legislation contains key provisions that corporate seed contracts must adhere to Vermont laws, and that if there is a dispute between a Vermont farmer and the seed manufacturer, it must be heard in Vermont (rather than in the home state of the corporation).
This event is the last in a three part series exploring the future of our food. Join us for an opportunity to discuss this important legislation with our elected representatives.
Free refreshments will follow the event.
This event starts at 7pm and will be held at Christ’s Church on Main Street in downtown Saxtons River, VT. The events are FREE. Contact Meg Lucas at 802-869-1236 for more information.
