On Saturday, November 19 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center hosts a workshop with basket-maker Jackie Abrams for ages twelve to adult. Abrams provides papers of various sizes, shapes and colors as well as hand-painted strips for each participant. With these, Abrams shows how to create two kinds of star ornaments and a woven triangle with bells.

Space is limited and materials are prepared ahead of time, so please reserve a place by November 12 to make beautiful and artistic ornaments by calling the Museum at (802) 257-0124, extension 102 and leave your phone number for confirmation. The fee which includes materials and written instructions is $15 per person; Museum members, $12 per person.

Jackie Abrams has been a studio basket-maker since 1975. At first she used natural materials to make functional baskets. In 1990 she began to make basket forms with cotton paper painted with abstract designs or splashes of color, and then cut into strips, which is her hallmark style. Abrams’ work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Philadelphia Museum Craft Show, the American Craft Council in Baltimore, and the Charles A. Wustum Museum of Fine Arts in Racine, WI. and locally at Gallery in the Woods in Brattleboro.

Brattleboro Museum & Art Center galleries are open daily, except Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for students. Museum members and children six years old and younger are free of charge. The Museum is located in Union Station at the intersection of Main Street (Route 5) and Routes 119 and 142 in downtown Brattleboro. The Museum is wheelchair accessible; an ASL interpreter for the hearing impaired will be provided if requested two weeks in advance. Parking is available in front of the Museum. For more information, call 802-257-0124 or visit www.brattleboromuseum.org.
