Curfew

The 1974 Brattleboro Code, Section 13-36. "Signal" states:

"The chief of police of the town shall sound, or cause to be sounded, one blast of the fire alarm bell and whistle daily at 9:10 p.m. (ord. of 4-26-44, section 1)"

This would be a warning to the children of town under age 16 who might be out and about wandering or loitering, or found in any public resort, that curfew was about to take effect, and that they must be in before 9:30 or have a very good excuse. Violators could be taken into custody. Parents would be held accountable.

Now, 1974 wasn't so long ago. Can anyone recall this curfew? When was it eliminated? What was it like?
