I wonder how many Vermonters are aware of how few rights we, as workers, have in Vermont if we are not in a union workplace.
Employers are NOT required to give employees rest periods or lunch breaks. There are NO restrictions on the number of hours and days an employee may be made to work without a rest period!
If you quit or are discharged, your employer does NOT have to pay you vacation or sick time UNLESS you had a written statement agreeing to pay you for earned, but unused time.
An employer does NOT have to pay you time and a half for working Sundays or Holidays (unless you have a written agreement stating otherwise)
This information was taken directly from the Vermont Department of Labor & Industry and I think it goes to show that when people say that cows in Vermont have more rights than the people do - THEY ARE CORRECT!
Why do you think cows get a parade down Main St. Brattleboro, but you never see the town setting up a parade to show appreciation for its workers!
