The Brooks Memorial Library Trustees invite the library community to a forum on Thursday, June 8, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, in the library’s meeting room to help trustees and staff plan for the library activities and services for the next five years. The library’s current five year plan, 2002-2006, is being updated this year and library stakeholders can help with input on the current services the library offers.

The evening will consist of a survey that will ask people which services they are familiar with; which services they use; which services they might use if they knew more about them. Participants will also be asked to rank the services important to them, and which ones they think are important to the community. There will also be a report on the current five year plan and a facilitated discussion lead by Amy Howlett, a library consultant from the Vermont Department of Libraries. The Trustees’ Planning Committee will then use this data to help them revise the roles, goals, and objectives the staff and trustees will emphasize in the upcoming years. Members of the committee are trustees Elizabeth Tannenbaum, Laurie Richards, Sara Warner-Phillips, community members Ronny Johnson and Ruth Unsicker.

The current five year plan has been updated each year since 2003. The plan and annual assessments are available on the library’s web site, http://www.brooks.lib.vt.us/library.htm#fiveyear. The current plan is the third in a series of plans that the library has used to plan its activities and programs since 1991. The trustees follow guidelines published by the Public Library Association in designing the plan which consist of a mission statement; roles in the community the library concentrate on; and goals and objectives to promote the roles.

The Trustees will provide light refreshments.
