A workshop on interviewing styles and techniques, methods and mistakes will be held Monday, September 11 at the office of The Commons, 139 Main Street, 2nd floor, Brattleboro. The 2-hour workshop will be facilitated by reporter Alvino-Mario Fantini.
The workshop's activities will include a consideration of what makes for a successful interview, how to establish rapport with the interview subject and how to get the information you need from your interview. Different styles and techniques used by established journalists will also be discussed but the emphasis will be on how to develop your own interviewing style.
Participants are encouraged to bring suggestions for interviews they would like to do and, if time permits, should be prepared to conduct a few mock interviews during the session.
Fantini currently serves as the summer intern at the The Commons. He was Bolivia correspondent for wire-service Bridge News/Telerate, editorial writer at The Wall Street Journal Europe and has conducted interviews for "Neighbor to Neighbor," a community interview program at BCTV.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Call 246-NEWS (6397) for more information, or email info@commonsnews.org.
