Medical practice has obviously declined. The medications available in this ad 200 years ago could remedy condtions which comtemporary medications are incable of curings, such as rotten teeth. These days we have to undergo extensive dental work. But back then all you needed to do was to purchase a bottle of pills.

Not much snow this January. I'm guessing February will end up
warm and spring-like; birds return and flowers bloom
    cold, but not snowy
    cold, and very snowy
a slushy winter mix of rain and snow
    mild with little snow
with a record snowfall on the books
    as mud season
