Brattleboro, VT - The Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition (BAPC), in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Demand Reduction Program, is presenting Current Drugs of Abuse by Children, a workshop for social service staff, teachers, parents, and the community on Tuesday, December 12th at 3:30 at the Marlboro College Technology Center in Brattleboro, VT.
Special Agent Lisa Remick, workshop leader, will lead a hands-on program about the current drugs of abuse in New England. Signs, symptoms, and paraphernalia associated with the abuse of these drugs and tips and strategies to keep young people from engaging in risky behaviors that might lead to drug use will be discussed.
Special Agent Remick has been with the DEA since 1984; she has been stationed in the Boston and Los Angeles Field Divisions and is currently stationed in the Manchester, NH Resident Office. Special Agent Remic is the DEA's Demand Reduction Coordinator for Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
The mission of the DEA Demand Reduction Program is to enhance prevention programs across the nation by developing strategic alliances with prevention and treatment programs, community coalitions, and federal, state, and local governments in their efforts to reduce the demand for drugs. In this capacity Special Agent Remick has worked with state's Governor's Councils, area coalitions, colleges and universities, school districts, hospitals, police and fire departments, and concerned citizens in implementing demand reduction strategies.
Special Agent Remick is a certified DARE Instructor and PRIME for Life Under 21 Instructor and has spoken at over one hundred colleges and schools throughout New England. She was recently honored as the New Hampshire Federal Special Agent of the Year.
The mission of BAPC is to develop and implement a comprehensive community effort resulting in the ongoing prevention and reduction of youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse in the Windham Southeast area. To support this mission, BAPC works collaboratively with community partners to determine community training needs and to offer parent education programs, including Guiding Good Choices and Supporting School Success.
