Post Oil Solutions monthly forum, "Building Sustainable Communities," will host local sustainable food expert, Vern Grubinger, for a talk entitled, "From Rags to Niches: In Pursuit of Non-Commodity Agriculture and a More Local Food System in Vermont." Vern is the director of the University of Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Center, a vegetable and berry specialist at the University of Vermont Extension, teaches a class at UVM about renewable energy on the farm and was just recently named as the next Coordinator of Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program of USDA.
He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Vermont Land Trust, and the Windham County Farm Bureau. Recently he has been active in efforts to educate the agricultural community on the effects of climate change on agriculture. The forum is free, though contributions to Post Oil Solutions, and its many projects designed to promote sustainability and community in our region, are always appreciated. Light refreshments will also be available. Reservations are encouraged. For reservations, or additional information, info@postoilsolutions.org, or 802 869 2141.
