In the late 60s, Booie and I visited my brother and his family who were in the Army and stationed in Germany. One of our side trips was to the concentration camp in Dachau.
Dachau was not a classical death camp, rather it was the site of much of the human experimentation the Germans engaged in during the War.
Nevertheless, the photos and stories form there were too horrible to contemplate.
The engineer of Nazi experimentation was Dr. Joseph Mengele, a beast who never was found after the war despite the efforts of many.
Had he been caught, he surely would have received the death penalty.
So, the other day I read about the recent revelation that the British carried out experiments on Indians in the area that is now Pakistan over a ten year period during the 30s. The Brits were testing the effects of mustard gas on their subjects.
I then thought of the American experimentation on African-Americans wherein they infected many of these American citizens with syphilis. Or what about the American citizens who were given LSD without their knowledge by the CIA during the 60s and 70s.
Could someone please explain the difference (other than the sheer numbers) between the human experimentation carried out by he Nazis and Mengele and that of the Americans and Brits other than the fact that we were on the winning side?
