The fall schedule of Post Oil Solutions' "(Re)Learning to Feed Ourselves" workshop series continues on Sunday, September 16 with a seed saving workshop that will be held from 1:00-5:00 PM, at the Brattleboro Savings & Loan community room, Main Street, in downtown Brattleboro.
The focus of the workshop is twofold. The presenters, Treah Pichette and Robert King, will first talk about the history and craft of seed saving. But it is also planned that we will discuss the possibility of forming a seed saving group in our region. Hopefully, workshop participants will be interested in such a venture.
The organization of a seed saving group would be part of POS' continuing efforts to help develop the necessary infrastructure that will enable us to become increasingly food sustainable in a post petroleum era. It is also seen as a positive step toward dealing with the food crises that is emerging around the development of genetically-engineered seeds by giant agri-businesses.
The workshop will be led by Treah Pichetter and Robert King. Treah is an artist who lives in Athens, Vermont. She's been growing and preserving food for over 40 years, having learned from generations in her family who loved to garden. Robert is from Putney, Vermont, and has worked with many "master gardeners" over the past 40 years. He has a strong interest in sustainable agriculture (as found in Rudolf Steiner's Bio-Dynamic scientific/organic methods), and has both a strong understanding and practice of gardening as a year-round activity.
The workshop fee is $5, and pre-registration is required: 802 869 2141.
