VIRGINIA WYOMING presents her archetypal and beautiful guardian vases at the C.X. Silver Gallery in West Brattleboro throughout September 2007. There will be a reception to meet Virginia TODAY September 7, 4:30 -8:30 p.m. at the C.X. Silver Gallery.

Virginia began working in clay in 1966 as a graduate student at Rutgers inspired by artist-potter, the late Hui Ka Kuong and later by Makoto Yabe. She began with sculptural pieces and learned to make utilitarian ware, enjoying the influences of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art at the University of Illinois and moving near New York City with its stimulating diversity of pop, conceptual art and happenings. She has been working in Vermont since 1974.

After more than 20 years of teaching in public education, she is now working full time in her studio in Westminster West. She explains her current series of vases: “The Awareness series comes from a mysterious place and is tempered, I hope, with a sense of humor. My ideas come from art, dreams and experiences. Most who go though cancer treatments find it profoundly change things for them. These figurative pieces come from somewhere within those changes. When standing alone they may evoke thoughts of ancient sculpture but I think they are at their best when filled with flowers.” Virginia’s new guardian vases that are part of her Awareness Vase series are now on view through September at the C.X. Silver Gallery.

The C.X. Silver Gallery is located at 814 Western Avenue, on Vermont Route 9 on the left going west, a mile beyond Interstate 91 Exit 2. The Gallery is open weekends 12-6 p.m. and throughout the week by appointment. Morning and evening visits are also possible by contacting Adam Silver at (802) 257-7898 or (802) 579-9088 or at cxsilvergallery@verizon.net.
