Benefit Concert for Hastings House Media Center

On Friday evening, October 26th at 7:30 p.m., master Greek oud musician Nikos Dimitriadis will perform selections from his recent CD "Solo Oud" at the Hastings House Parish Hall in Walpole, accompanied by American percussionist Scott Davidson. On this, his first tour of the United States, Dimitriadis will demonstrate his wealth of Greek, Syrian, Turkish, Iraqi and Iranian/Persian Oud stylings... learned from extended study under renowned masters such as Multu Turun and Serif Muhuddin Targan. Scott Davidson, of Wilmington, DE will accompany Dimitriadis on doumbek and frame drum.

Dimitriadis, from Thessalonica, Greece, initially studied with Vassilis Cousouras, following the influence of his father - who played the Kemence lyre of Pontos. He is particularly interested in composition and inspired solo improvisation called "Taqasim." He presently teaches oud in Greece and offers selections from his album through his website http://www.oud.gr

The concert is a fund-raiser for the Media Center at Hastings House – a small theatre and discussion room with high-definition video and computer projection, a community resource for Walpole and surrounding towns, sponsored by the Walpole Unitarian Church. During a break in the concert there will be projected selections from an episodic film by Tony Gatlif tracing the development the Romany music and dance from its roots in Rajastan through Egypt and Turkey. Coffee and treats will be available.

The suggested donation is $20. For further information leave a message at 802-254-3975 or write michaelbix@yahoo.com
