Vermont Independent Media Relaunches

In what could cause a tiny bit of confusion here in the Brattleboro area, Burlington's "Vermont Independent Media," ie, Vermont's indymedia, has relaunched their website.

Locally, folks know Vermont Independent Media, Inc. as VIM, the entity that sponsors numerous writing workshops and publishes The Commons.

The statement sent to iBrattleboro from Burlington says:

...

"Vermont Independent Media is a new website dedicated to bringing independent media to the Burlington and greater Vermont area.

We are trying to connect with other independent media site in order to network and create awareness of other independent media and education sites.

The site is www.vtindymedia.org "

...

They also wish us all well down here in Brattleboro.

The new site just went up and is a bit sparse, but has some reporting and photos of recruitment center protests. It could use more independent Vermont voices contributing news, so drop by and lend a voice.

It is modeled after the numerous indymedia sites around the country and is basically Vermont's branch of this loose-knit "collective of independent media organizations and hundreds of journalists offering grassroots, non-corporate coverage." It is a rebirth of the older Vermont indymedia site from around 2005 that some may recall reading for war protest and other information.

http://www.indymedia.org is the national hub.

Personally, I can keep Vermont IndyMedia and VIM unique in my mind, and don't expect this to be a problem. The goal, for all of us, is independent news.

(If you do a search for "Vermont Independent Media" on Google, our friends up the road who run iPutney are the first result. At least a few organizations around the state share this phrase or some version of it.)

Welcome back, Vermont IndyMedia.
