Gulf of Tonkin; Gulf of Sidra; Reichstag fire; the Archduke's assassination; WMD's...How many of the 'reasons' countries used to justify their aggressions turned out to be both verifiable and justifiable? How many were proven to be ruses?
We need to do a better job in determining the reality of catalysts that launch Nations and Cultures into War. The media has proven itself complicit, incapable or either discernment or truly dispassionate investigation.
In this time of tinderboxed tensions, and over-amped hyperbole, it is critical to bring truth and measured analysis to our bellicose impulses. An informed and literate populace can go a long way towards sniffing out dubious plots and shady stories. But that is not the trend, presently we are bombarded with fluff.
When the largest megaphones blare the biggest lies, how can people direct the actions of their leaders and corporate overlords towards conscionable action for all? Is such a thing possible now? Was it ever possible?
Or do we live in mobius strip of history, where Athens crushing Melos, or the US taking Grenada, or the latest iteration thereof, is simply inevitable?
These are some random question that arise from the latest saber rattling news, and if anyone has insight, I'd love to hear it.
