Public Meeting: "Taking Heart in Hard Times"
Area residents are welcome to attend a public gathering called “Taking Heart in Hard Times” on Tuesday, February 19th in Brattleboro.
Participants may bring and share whatever moves them deeply, and offers comfort, hope, and inspiration during these challenging times facing our nation and world. These include favorite poems, prose, quotes, songs sung or recorded ones played on a boombox, short clips of videos, photos, dances, and ritual ceremonies, prayers, chants, and meditations.
The meeting will be led by John Berkowitz of Saxtons River, Vermont, who has been a state-wide activist during the last 35 years for peace, economic justice, and environmental protection. He will offer poems by David Whyte, Mary Oliver, and other well-known poets. He will also provide songbooks with lyrics of hundreds of familiar rock, folk, gospel, and other songs for participants who wish to sing.
The free event will take place at 6:30pm at All Souls West Village Meeting House on South Street, behind the Fire Station in West Brattleboro.
Donations will be requested to cover site rental cost, as well as pizza and salad supper for participants who wish to come at 6pm. With enough interest, the meetings will continue monthly, alternating between participants' homes.
