After mistakenly thinking that it was free parking on Martin Luther Kings Birthday, a holiday, I received a parking ticket. This despite the sign that reads "Sundays and Holidays excepted".

I wrote to Brattleboro Parking Enforcement to question the ticket and received the following response from Carol Coulombe, Parking Enforcement Coordinator:

"I am writing in response to your request for dismissal of the above mentioned parking ticket. The information has been reviewed per our department policy for a decision. It is now my duty to advise you that your request has been denied.

Please be advised, Martin Luther King Day is not a town holiday. Town designated holidays that constitute free parking can now be found on the town website. We will be looking to see if we can instate Martin Luther King Day as a town holiday in the future.

Your remittance of $8.00 will clear this ticket. If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact me at the number listed above (802-257-2305).

I will pay the $8 but wonder how visitor to Brattleboro will know that a holiday is not necessarily a holiday.
