Rescue Inc. Community Training Center is proud to announce that there is a National Registry First Responder course now forming.

The classes meet one evening per week beginning on Wednesday, April 02, 2008 from 6:30-9:30 PM and will complete training on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. The course will be held at Rescue Inc. Training Center, VABEC, 11 University Way, Brattleboro, VT. This class is intended as a volunteer entry level course and is appropriate for participants who will be 16 years old at time of testing. Rescue is actively seeking enthusiastic, mature adults in the fourteen service communities to volunteer their time and talents to strengthen our volunteer membership. No prior EMS training is required as the ‘training center’ offers all necessary training and courses.

First Response squads are also currently active in many of Rescue’s responding communities including Newfane/Townshend/Brookline, Wardsboro, Jamaica, Dummerston, Putney, Guilford, and Vernon. “When a member of our community is in cardiac arrest there are only 4-6 minutes for someone trained in CPR to begin the life saving skills needed to resuscitate the victim,” stated Connie Faulkner, Program Director for Rescue Inc.

“Furthermore, most victims of cardiac arrest are in need of an Automatic External Defibrillator to ‘re-start’ the victim’s heart. This device needs to be applied to a victim within 8 minutes of pulselessness. Volunteer first responders and emergency medical technicians in the community trained to respond, increase a person’s chances of survival by as much as 30 percent. This is a very rewarding way to be of community service and to make a difference in YOUR community.

Thinking about a career change? Want to make a difference in your community? Think about becoming an EMT. The training that you’ll receive can help a loved-one, friend, neighbor, you.
