Brattleboro Elected Officials and Teens Team Up for Global Youth Service Day
    Thursday, April 17 2008 @ 09:55 AM GMT+5
    Contributed by: Anonymous

KidsSaturday, April 26th 2008, marks the 9th annual Global Youth Service Day. On this day, youth around the world take action to better their communities and their planet. Members of the Westgate Teen Club, facilitated by VCSP AmeriCorps member Laura Wood, will celebrate Global Youth Service Day in Brattleboro at the Boys and Girls Club at 17 Flat St.

The lunch event is an extension of the teens' guiding theme of 'Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities' and will offer a chance to meet representatives from local youth organizations and participate in a community discussion on Healthy Snacks in After School Programming. There will be food and games for the whole family, as well as an opportunity for community service! Lunch will be served at noon, accompanied by a short conversation facilitated by Service Politics Institute (SPI). SPI aims to bridge the gap between community service and political action through collaborative service projects. The discussion between Brattleboro community members and local politicians will link policy with service, and community needs.

Following the discussion, teens will organize volunteers in putting the finishing touches on the new Boys and Girls Club 'Kid?s Café' - a new and fully functional kitchen.

The afternoon will wrap up with nutrition games and trivia designed by the teens, using the basketball court, rock climbing wall, and other fun zones in the Boys and Girls Club. The entire event will last from noon until 3 pm and all are welcome.

Anyone interested in volunteering in the set up of the event should contact, youth organizers, Bernie Parent or Zachary Gilbeau at (802) 257-2430.

Not much snow this January. I'm guessing February will end up
warm and spring-like; birds return and flowers bloom
    cold, but not snowy
    cold, and very snowy
a slushy winter mix of rain and snow
    mild with little snow
with a record snowfall on the books
