I've been up since before dawn, watching the precipitation change.
Early on it was snowing, slow swirls of white dots spangly in the dark. Then the flakes grew into big feathers floating around in the first light. A little warmth in the air and feathers became slushy parachutes. A smooth wind stayed just long enough for the sun to break through. When it darkened again the rain came as stinging needles, steady but not hard. And then back to a regular wet snow.
This afternoon the snow shared equal time with sleet, at last petering to a fine rain which has now stopped. But it's not over. Something more will be coming down. I really don't like January wintry weather. It seems dishonest.
None of this is unusual or important. I just wanted to log a post about how that old New England axiom is true: "If ya don't like the weather, wait a minute."
If you have to drive, go slowly. And let us know how the roads are by you.

A Weather Sampler Today

I watched all the same things happening while shoveling, waiting for the bus, snowshoeing on the sidewalk, and then later walking on the sidewalk in the slushpuddles after the sidewalk plow (YAY!) had come. It has been quite a day for weather. I didn't wear my coat for most of that. Must be well above freezing.
I'm not a good judge of road conditions, as I live on Salt Row (Rte. 9) and didn't drive today. Rte. 9 is fine, as ever, and I was splashed many times by trucks and buses. But the side roads don't look like they have been plowed. I know they've been plowing here, though. Every time I shovel, I am removing great, nasty clumps of petroleum-stained snow from the sidewalk.

Roads were pretty good as of 2 o'clock or so, at least in town and
even side streets. A bit slushy in spots but plenty passable. Putney
Rd no problem either.
Did you get the dazzling sugar plum fairy snow flurries we were
having around 1pm? Those were nice and afterward, everything
looked freshly frosted again. Really lovely snow and a nice warm
day, comparatively speaking.
Although in terms of changeable weather, it looks like temps are
heading down and we will get first some chilly breezes, then the
deep freeze Friday night. Just in time for the FULL MOON Saturday
night which I read in my daybook is called the Cold Moon. For what
it's worth. (the usual full moon warnings apply.....)
