We're currently raising 52 Rhode Island Red Chickens (50 hens and 2 roosters). They started laying in November and are now producing about 45 eggs/day.
Eggs are available at our self-serve table in the mudroom of the farm house. For $4.25/dozen, these are the most amazing eggs on the planet!
The chickens are very healthy and beautiful birds. We provide them with 100% organic feed and free range of the land.
A fun family experience is to visit the lively flock. The chickens are friendly and approachable. Guests are welcome and encouraged to collect eggs.
Based on the needs and demands of the local community, we may expand the flock to 100 birds. In the future, we hope to raise a variety of chickens, ducks and turkeys.
Look for our 'Farm Fresh Eggs' sign and swing by!

The ad says there are 50 hens and 2 roosters so I think Tad may have been referring to the other kind of laying...
In my single days a friend of mine used to refer to this type of ratio in a bar as a "Target Rich Environment" which of course is a military term roughly similar to shooting fish in a barrel or a turkey shoot.

Ah, I missed the yolk. However, based on my experience of these foul, the "laying" of which you speak does not require much exertion, except on the part of the hens who are trying to get away.

If you've never had a fresh egg, you've never had an egg. Remember how eggs tasted when we were kids? Yeah. Like the difference between heavy cream and cream from a milking. No comparison.

I'd love to see ibrattleboro poll readers on what they pay for a dozen eggs these days. Are others typically paying $4.25 or more? $1.59 or less? Somewhere inbetween?
Another question: How much do readers typically pay for cheese? I noticed a recent article in the Rutland Herald that reported a pound of a special cheese called "Brick Obama" selling for $27 and change for a pound. I'd have to work three hours to buy a pound for that one!

I buy eggs from a farm when they're available, at 3$/dozen. I'd rather do without than eat supermarket eggs, but I'll use them for baking and such. They just have no flavor.
Cheese is unbelievably expensive now. Plain domestic Swiss, a good standard for sandwiches, is about 8$ a lb. It was as cheap as American cheese for most of my life. Even lowly American is 6$/lb these days.
