More Memories From the Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition (Pictures & YouTube)
    Sunday, February 15 2009 @ 11:34 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Christian Avard

Recreation"Ski jumping to me is like God grabbing you by the seat of your pants and taking you for a fun ride."

I think that quote best sums up my idea of Nordic ski jumping. I'll go on forever about the times I jumped in high school and my first year in college... but I'll save it.

I can't tell you how great it was to see ski jumping back in Brattleboro. It's been four years since the last meeting and the town wasn't sure it would make a comeback... it did!

I've got a lot of photos but I'll highlight my favorites. I'll add a link to a slideshow for the rest. In addition, I've also added a YouTube of today's events starring me and my "three and eleven-twelveths year old" son, Forrester.

    Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Christian. I really like the shots you got up at the top - the one
with the skier flying out toward the mountains is great. (It looks like you
    figured out the video, too!)

You told me that you used to jump... what's it like after you start down
the hill and realize you have to fly?

(Make sure you add your slideshow and video to b'media, so they'll be
easy to find after the story drops away.)

What is the deal with that cow bell?

In Europe fans ring them to cheer for their favorite jumpers. It's a
tradition that started in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Fits in pretty well in Vermont, though! Cool.

    Hey Christian,

GREAT seeing you there and GREAT job MAXIMUS on the photography! (other than the "strange guy" in the crowd looking up?)

Nice shots of familiar faces in the crowd, even one that looks like Cary Grant! ;)

Funny to see a "Strand" bag, too.

    Nice pictures Christian

Hi Christian - very nice to see these. It was a huge rush for me to be
back at a 90-metre jump... I had forgotten how compelling it is.

There was one across the street from me built by Norwich U when I
was a kid. I jumped myself (15-metre only!) from age 9 through 10
but did watch Norwich and Dartmouth meets - and it was great to re-
    experience the excitement.
