In collaboration with the Windham Regional Career Center, a new Dry Stone Walling training and certification testing facility has been set up by local dry stone wallers. The purpose of the facility is to provide a dedicated space for year-round training and to give people from all walks of life an opportunity to learn this ancient craft. As befits the Career Center, the primary focus is on vocational training and certification for young wallers who are interested in the trade as a profession, as well as continuing education/certification for wallers who have been exercising their profession for years.
This is a social occasion as well as an informational session. Come and find out more about all aspects of dry stone walling, mingle with other people who share your interest in walls and stone, meet the instructors and trainees and see/touch a stone wall built recently by trainees. Dry stone wallers and instructors Jared Flynn, Dan Snow and Michael Weitzner will answer questions and discuss walling and the new program. Also available will be leaflets/information on dry stone walling techniques, standards & certification, and how to start out on the path to becoming a certfied professional waller or a competent amateur.
Dan Snow will be on hand to sign copies of his books. Books on dry stone walling and related topics will be on display, some for sale and available on site through Alison Macrae's Verde as well as online.
Light refreshments will be provided. Donations towards a scholarship fund will be gratefully accepted. Don't miss this opportunity to support vocational education and to help preserve Vermont’s heritage.
The Windham Regional Career center is located on Atwood Street, behind Brattleboro Union High School. For more information please call Jared at 254 2432.
