Dora Bouboulis Appointed To Brattleboro Selectboard
    Wednesday, March 25 2009 @ 12:55 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Lise

Town NewsThe Selectboard met today to fill the vacancy left by Rich Garant's resignation, and Dora Bouboulis was appointed as his replacement. Chair Jesse Corum said that by Town Charter, the Selectboard must appoint someone, rather than hold a special election.

Although there was some mention of taking letters of interest from the public, the board concensus was that the in light of the large number of issues facing the board in the coming months, it would be better to appoint a replacement right away. Dick DeGray nominated Dora, saying that due to her strong involvement in town government in the last few years, she would be a good replacement for Rich Garant.

The other board members agreed and no other nominations were made. A vote was taken and Dora was in. She took her seat to the left of Martha O'Connor at the Selectboard table, where Martha instantly quipped that she was "in her seat."

Dora thanked the board for appointing her and said that she "looks forward to serving the citizens of Brattleboro."

Dora Bouboulis ran and lost for a one year term on the Brattleboro Selectboard in the last election. She served one term on the board previously in 2007.

Dora will do a great job. I have every confidence in her and was hoping the Board would appoint her to fill Rich's seat.

Good luck to all of you. You're going to do a lot of good for our town.

Congratulations to Dora, the Selectboard and the Town. The choice was a natural, and I believe Dora will represent the Town with an intelligent and positive approach.

I give credit where credit is due: the Board did the right thing. Thanks.

Yes, an excellent choice for all the reasons mentioned.

Indeed, I am grateful that the board appointed Dora. I had assumed that they would pick someone who merely agreed with their views on most matters.

It proves that I have become overly cynical, and that I was wrong to be so.

Dora's appointment opens up an alternate slot at the DRB (expires in
    June), right?

Yup. Conflict of interest for her to sit on both Boards. I've actually suggested that one individual seek out the job because Dora's on her way out. We'll miss her.
