The decision to express one’s gender identity in its entirety can take a fair measure of determination and perseverance. The ability to share that expression in a way that is both entertaining and illuminating takes wit and skill. The performers of the Tranny Roadshow possess all of these things and will be bringing their multimedia performance art extravaganza to the stage of the All Souls Unitarian Church in Brattleboro, VT once again!
The Tranny Roadshow has been traveling around North America since 2005. Previous tours have included cross-country adventures, regional excursions, and the occasional event-specific showing. Their New England Tour begins April 18th and consists of a 12-day performance spree at venues throughout the New England states. Before all performances, Roadshow organizer Jamez Terry connects with community members to ensure that productions incorporate local artists and are shaped to be venue-specific.
Highlighting performances by a myriad of transgender artists including musicians, humorists, spoken word artists, a playwright and a pop star who has topped the Russian charts, the cast consists of 9 talented performers. Terry is among the performers and boasts an impressive resumé full of performance art, community outreach and activism. One of his previous efforts was founding the Denver Zine Library, which has been featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition.
This will be the Tranny Roadshow’s third performance in Brattleboro, having previously performed to enthusiastic audiences in 2005 and 2006. All but 3 of the performers are new to Brattleboro, and the line-up is sure to engage seasoned supporters as well as new fans!
Emily Brochin of the Philadelphia Weekly found that the Roadshow was "an intelligently diverse vision of identity ... demonstrate(s) just how rewarding and fun the exploration of selfhood can be." The Bay Area Reporter called it "an edgy celebration of gender variant artists." The Tranny Roadshow invites you to share in the celebration.
