Samirah Evans CD Release Party, April 24

MusicSilktone Productions presents Samirah Evans CD Release Party at Hooker-Dunham Theater, April 24

Brattleboro, VT – (April 7, 2009) – Jazz and blues vocalist Samirah Evans will perform two shows at the Hooker-Dunham Theater in Brattleboro on Friday, April 24 to support the release of her new CD, My Little Bodhisattva.

The concert will include arrangements from the new CD that have not yet been performed in public. In a February review, Jon Potter of the Brattleboro Reformer said: “My Little Bodhisattva courageously escorts familiar standards from the pop and jazz idioms to places they have never been before, while retaining a respectful spirit.”

Evans will be supported by a quintet consisting of Miro Sprague on piano, Michael Zsoldos on saxophone, Jason Ennis on guitar, Michael O’Brian on bass, and Conor Meehan on drums.

“I am elated,” says Evans. “Each of these musicians really captures the essence of my material with explosive energy, ingenuity, and sensitivity. All I have to say is be prepared for a spectacular show!”

Tickets are $15 per person with show times of 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Reservations can be made through the Hooker-Dunham box office starting April 17 by calling 802-254-9276.

Advanced tickets are on sale now at In the Moment on 143 Main Street, Turn it Up records on 2 Elliot Street and Li Pon Artifacts on 49 Elliot Street, as well as online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/62271.

My Little Bodhisattva will be available for purchase at the Hooker-Dunham Theater the evening of the performance. It is currently available online at CDbaby.com or in Brattleboro at Turn it Up and In the Moment music stores.

In New Orleans, a city known worldwide for its music, Samirah was one of its most popular jazz & blues vocalists. She first performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 1990 and became a regular fixture as either a leader or featured vocalist for fourteen consecutive years. She has toured Europe, Asia, and both North and South America as a headliner, and shared stages with B.B. King, James Brown, and Irma Thomas, among others. Her first CD, Give Me A Moment, was ranked as the year’s fifth best by the New Orleans Times-Picayune in 2002.

Evans moved to Brattleboro in 2006 with her husband after hurricane Katrina destroyed their home and made her area debut with the Vermont Jazz Center Big Band. She can be heard every weekend at Mount Snow’s Harriman’s Restaurant throughout the ski season and performs at many popular theaters, supper clubs and nightspots throughout the New England region.
