Fire in the Sugarhouse
The Soul of bluegrass… from the heart of Vermont
Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys to appear at the Latchis Theater Saturday, April 18
Presented by Brattleboro Arts Initiative
BRATTLEBORO, VT— One of New England’s most exciting acoustic bands, Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys, will present a concert of original and traditional bluegrass music at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro on April 18. The show, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will feature original songs from the band’s new CD, “Fire in the Sugarhouse,” along with a scintillating variety of old and new country songs, rousing fiddle and banjo tunes, gospel quartets and imaginative adaptations of songs from a rich array of musical sources.
The Plowboys have been a top draw through the Northeast for over thirty years, with a dozen recordings, and several overseas tours to their credit. The upcoming concert marks their first appearance at the Latchis, and the group looks forward to playing on the main stage. The Latchis is known for its wide variety of community programming and offers the perfect venue for a lively evening of musical fun.
“The Latchis is known as a great room to play. Audiences there are always enthusiastic and our kind of music appeals to such a broad range of folks. We know the crowd will give us a big boost – that way we can give it back to them in our performance,” says “Banjo Dan” Lindner. “It’s bound to be a lively night!”
A Banjo Dan performance is always full of energy, variety and spontaneous humor. As the British Bluegrass News mused several years ago, “Why aren’t there more good times like these?” Playing with Banjo Dan will be Willy Lindner on mandolin, Alan Davis on guitar, Jon Drake on bass, and hometown Brattleboro musician Phil Bloch on fiddle.
The Latchis Theater is a Greco-Deco movie palace built in the 1930’s, coming full circle from Vaudeville through the great Hollywood film era, to a contemporary slate of first run, art and independent films, and now a new life as a center for performing arts, as Live at the Latchis events complement the cinema offerings. The Latchis is owned by the non-profit arts organization Brattleboro Arts Initiative, who are bringing Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys to the area to further their idea of a good time – throwing the doors of the Latchis wide open and serving as a true community resource.
Don’t miss out on an evening of New England bluegrass at its best! Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.
