Wow, did I just get an annoying call for a subscription for the reformer. It was based out of Fontana Califonia. The lady on the other end was very persistant in trying to get me to subscribe, dropping the price, only offering the weekend version. When I told her I wasn't interested she was almost angry about it.
I finally told her I can get them the day after from Mrs. Mikes work and she said "Don't you want your own?".
That's when I finally said I wasn't going to pay for a paper that so biased.
She said "Oh in the editorial section?"
I said "Practically the entire paper except maybe the classifieds."
I almost told her the thing that paper is good for is using for chicken bedding.

I would say the persistence is more indicative of things being tough in California, actually.
I haven't had many sales calls since we put ourselves on the no-call list. When a stray salesperson calls, I politely say no and then "Thanks for calling" and then I immediately hang up without waiting for an answer. It may seem rude, but it's nothing compared to how rude I would be if I didn't hang up the phone.
Also, I've had sales jobs, and the soul-crushing part of it is not the polite "no thanks" but the people who take the opportunity to vent their anger at everything they can think of just because you happen to be an available punching bag. Saying thank you and have a nice day and hanging up allows them to dial the next number and maybe make their quota so they can keep feeding their kids and making their car payments like the rest of us. This woman has zero relationship with the Reformer except that it came up in her script on a computer screen as the name of the product she was selling today.
To me, the robo-calls are much more irritating, because they keep calling you back and there's no way to make it stop. I also get a little irritated at the police department calling to get a donation and trying to sell me on the idea that I get some kind of sticker for my car that would really come in handy if I get pulled over. (!!!) This lady is just trying to pay her bills, and hocking newspapers from a call center in California is the job she could get.
