    West Brattleboro Anti-biz?
    Wednesday, June 03 2009 @ 02:09 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: westbeezee

OpinionApparently at least one of our Selectboard members feels that West Brattleboro is anti-business.

If I may I'd like to insert my opinion on this one.

Take a look at West Brattleboro today...compare it to what it looked like 10 years ago. Today, West B. is FULL. Businesses have invested millions in West Brattleboro and compared to Canal St. or Putney Rd. I think we are doing better than these other areas of town.

If being unwilling to accept any and all businesses means anti-business then so be it. The community has attempted to define its character and support those businesses that enhance the area and those who live here.

Unfortunately, numerous business models exist today in America which are designed to extract value and resources while giving back very little. Consciously attempting to discourage these forces is in my opinion, in the best interest of the community.

I tip my hat to our many fine West Brattleboro businesses and to the community that supports them.

    West Brattleboro Anti-biz?
    Authored by: cgrotke on Wednesday, June 03 2009 @ 04:46 PM GMT+4
It's a little off topic, but has anyone done a survey of people who
work out of their homes, or operate their business from their living
room or garage? Perhaps planning and zoning should be rethought a
bit with an aim toward encouraging and supporting these often unseen
    contributors to the local economy.

I don't have any specific ideas right now - just wondering out loud.

For example, those cool pet tents at Brown and Roberts are made by
Jenny Hinton in West Brattleboro. I know others out there who do
contracting and home repairs, PR, and more.
