Of course we went to Gallery Walk. It was the place to be. For starters, there was free ice cream from Ben and Jerry's. Couple that with an open air, car-free Main Street experience on a warm and balmy night in June and there really is no place else to be. So we went.
There was a lot of traffic in all directions. We saw loads of people we knew detouring around Main, up Oak and out Western Ave to who knows where. We were headed to Main and that free ice cream, but although we were early, we were hardly the first one's there.

Our welcoming committee was Steve West of Live and Local and the Reformer's Bob Audette. They were so glad to see us!

We heard a lot of great music all over the place. One group we liked was these folks who were singing a swinging version of Java Jive when we walked by.

People never take pictures of marquees. So here's a picture of the Latchis marquee. Which reminds me, we still have to see Star Trek.

A view over this year's windowbox plantings on the Kyle Gilbert Memorial Bridge over the Whetstone to the Riverview and railroad crossing.

Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, taken through horse sculpture on front lawn. I will also note that I enjoyed hearing Wendy and the Lost Boys while browsing art at BMAC.

The theme of this summer's exhibits is play. There was a lot of fun art on display. Dont miss the strange video art in the little room with the comfortable chairs. It's a great video that feels almost painted even though it's all live action. The photo below is a light painting by Stephen Knapp.

These girls are probably not intending to be an art installation but we found their hair arty.

These girls were definitely trying to be arty and we think they succeeded in spades. Much enjoyed the gauzy girls.

There were boys hanging out too. Here are some. One thing we noticed about having Main Street closed to traffic was that people really enjoyed just hanging out in the middle of Main. They didn't even need a lot of entertainment — it was entertaining in itself.

Tristan of the Riverview Café carves up a grilled cheese sandwich for tasting by the panel of culinary experts. It looked delicious and we were jealous. On the way out we saw Fish of WKVT. We wondered if he would get to eat a grilled cheese sandwich.

Frederic's son (the pod in purple) gets an early introduction to Brattleboro art and culture.

All this art made us tired and thirsty so we headed up to McNeill's where we drank delicious ales in honor of the beginning of summer in Vermont, one of the best places to be in any season. Certainly Strolling of the Heifers Weekend got off to a good start.
