While on my way to the Community Thanksgiving Dinner today I saw a notice posted in the window of R&B Deli. It stated that R&B is NOT going to be closing in Sept 2010 and in fact has no plans to close at all, at any time.
And judging from the wording it's apparent the owner is not happy that someone posted a "closing" rumor about R&B on iBrat.
The following comments are owned by whomever posted them. This site is not responsible for what they may say.
This is excellent news

I don't actually go in there very often, but I've always had pleasant experiences there. Everyone involved seems really great.
It's also nice to see people sitting outside, relaxing and enjoying a meal. For some reason, seeing a carpenter enjoying a coffee at at little cafe table gives me the warm fuzzies.

Wow, that makes it sound like there are rumors about something truly awful - rather than just that the store might close next year. I have never been in this place, but a sign like that on the door would really make me think twice about opening it and walking in!
How about re-wording the sign with something like this: Welcome! We are open! (If you heard that we were closing, please note, that's not actually true.)

A rumour that a business is closing is pretty awful. Put it on the internet, people read it, tell another person, it gets around. Bad news always travels faster than good news and retractions move glacially. Too bad the iBratt name was tagged onto the sign, but there you have it.
Thank you to Floyd for posting that they are in business and operating.
Good luck to R&B. live long, serve well, and prosper.

We're happy when downtown businesses put signs with our names on
them in their windows, as long as it is spelled right.
My own take is that the deli has gotten lots of free attention and
probably a bump in business due to this mistake by one of our
contributors who was concerned about them, but that it serves as a
reminder to everyone to double check things before you write them.
We, of course, wish the R&B Deli nothing but success, as we do all
local downtown businesses.

Yes, a rumor that a business is closing is bad. However, the sign in the window is truly toxic, since it doesn't mention the nature of the rumor. Makes it sound like someone went online and accused the owners of something horrible, unmentionable - I don't know, sex crimes or something. While the rumor is potentially damaging if not responded to, it is not unmentionable. It's just not true, so it would be better to address it directly than leave people thinking there's some shameful rumor out there (that could potentially be true despite the sign).

This is Ashley Smith, Brenda's daughter from R&B DELI.
I feel that this talk is getting blown out of proportion.
**We are not closing, nor have we talked about it**
My understanding is that there was posted information that should have and could have been easily dealt with, instead of stirring up more, unneeded and fictitious information..To be dealt with by asking the owner (my mom).
Yes, it is considered a rumor if someone has said something untrue that is being spread around to others. My mom simply wanted this “talk” to be done with. She put up signs because she wanted everyone to know to stop the rumors and know that we are not closing in next year. IBrattleboro was put onto the sign for that this is where we were told the information was coming from.
I am offended. It’s shocking to see the rudeness that even my little brother in middle school can see that people have written about all this information. It is not needed it and just puts down the situation more.
LOL, I don’t think it’s fair to say that we are getting free attention. We rarely ever advertise as it is. And to me, this is the wrong advertisement that we would want for our deli. I think it is great to see that people love our business but to be sarcastic in posts is not the right.
And LOL to the original post; definitely made me laugh :) We had closed for family illness a few times yes, my mother’s mom is not doing well.. but we are not closing down our business.
As for the sign…The sign reads: Ibrattleboro.com Rumors are just that, rumors. R&B DELI is not closing in Sept. 2010. It also includes…Shame on those who start rumors, Shame on the person who starts rumors, and shame on those who start rumors.
This is my mom’s humor. Like it or not, if you walked into the deli and saw or talked to us, we are the most caring folks around. We care what is being said by those, who won’t ask themselves, but decide to post false information on a local site for EVERYONE to see and more importantly talk about, that we do not want false information being spread about our business. The sign was a quick and easy way for us to get the word around since my mom is new to the area, now living in Brattleboro. She does not use a computer so she would not post anything to this website.
….So, all and all we do not want people thinking that we are closing. We are currently one of the few businesses left downtown at the time for a deli and we would like to stay.
Now that I have posted the correct information regarding the situation on my mom’s deli I would hope that this situation would make people see that you can not post information without checking your sources first. Whether you think so or not, putting down businesses these days shouldn’t have to happen. We all have our opinions, but we all are also just getting by in this inopportune economy. We all make mistakes and there is no harm done. The signs are down and if anyone has questions or comments feel free to ask here and or to ask in person.

It seems like most of you who have commented have not eaten at R&B. I
urge those of you who wish this business success to GO IN!! They serve very
good food! Probably the BEST Breakfast sandwiches in town--I stop in there
EVERY time I'm in town. And my brother and his girlfriend eat there one or
two times a week--they absolutely love it!

I don't usually go to delis, because their veggie sandwiches tend to be a bun stuffed with condiments. Do they have any real vegetarian food? I'd love to find another great place to grab a sandwich downtown.

Hiiiii, its R&B DELI
would just like to say thanks for the complement about our food; its always nice to see.
for vegetarians, we have a great veggie burger (its a garden burger). i myself am not a vegetarian, nor do i love veggies, but this patty is really good.
we also have veggies sandwiches in which you can choose what you would like in it. it can be hot or cold, in a wrap, bread, roll, or bagel.
there are a few salads and now serving soup; we also have daily specials, most homemade and some tend to be vegetarian.
hope that helps with your decision to come take a look :)
It's also nice to see people sitting outside, relaxing and enjoying a meal. For some reason, seeing a carpenter enjoying a coffee at at little cafe table gives me the warm fuzzies.
