    Vote for Daryl Pillsbury!
    Wednesday, January 20 2010 @ 08:47 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Anonymous

PoliticsI just wanted to say that I just signed a petition for Daryl Pillsbury to run for a 1 year seat on the Brattleboro Selectboard this year. That should heat up the race a little bit.

I am happy to see Daryl run again, and I expect others are as well. His common sense and working mans' perspective will be a plus for the Town if he is elected. As many of you know, Daryl cares very much about the people of Brattleboro and what they think. Just give him a call!

    He's got my vote, always.

I hope Scott McCarty will run, also. And I hope Dora stays.

Isn't Scott considering running for the Senate to take Peter Shumlin's place? But he would be good at any of those things!

Scott's had a lot of people suggest he go for the SB instead, as that's where he's needed. He's seriously thinking it over.

I, for one, would be happy to see Daryl back and Scott start out in the SB. There's a lot of work to do, we need open minds and creative thinking to get on with it.

Does anyone remember the Statehouse vote a few years ago, I believe it was about campaign finance reform, when Daryl sided with Douglas? The details are lost to me but I recall it was not entirely favorable for Daryl's liberal image.
    Details anyone?

I don't remember all the details but I believe Daryl felt that the bill would hinder the ability of independent candidates with little financial resources to run at all? Anybody else? He may have had good cause in that case.

Yes, it was so long ago that I don't recall the details, but it was because the bill favored party candidates and made it very tough for independents. I also recall the slur campaign against him, blaming him when some of the Dems also voted against it..

It was a case of Daryl looking at the bill and voting against it on it's merits - Douglas had nothing to do with it.
If I remember correctly, party politicians are allowed one spending limit for the primary and then an additional one for the general - and there may be state funds for election spending, not sure. Since an independent has no primary, he's only allowed to spend on the general.
    Its a serious handicap.

We badly need Daryl on the SB. Who would he be replacing? John Allen?

    I remember it that way.
There's no way Brattleboro would lose with Daryl on the board!

It's looking like a real race now.

(Tuesday's meeting made me wonder if Jesse and John knew elections
    were coming up.)
