    Comcast vs. Fairpoint?
    Thursday, February 04 2010 @ 03:29 PM GMT+5
    Contributed by: Anonymous

Questions & AnswersI was contacted by a young man going door to door offering a promotional $39/month unlimited long distance phone and internet package with Comcast. My DSL and phone with Fairpoint is about $40 more so it sounds like a good deal. Has anyone had any bad experiences with Comcast as a phone and internet provider?

The company is awful, and they have really,, really, really terrible telephone support. With that said, if you do experience a problem the local people who work for Comcast are excellent. Once you get by their phone system, it should be smooth sailing.

I'm happy with their internet and phone. Do be aware that the promotional rate is short lived, and be prepared for high rates after that.

If you're in the West Valley area, check out Southern Vermont Cable. Great service, good prices, and the last time they raised rates was 2 years ago! They get all the Comcast channels, I think they work with them somehow. Super speedy internet as well. Unfortunately they have a limited service area, but they're picking up so much business from disgusted Fairpoint customers, who knows, they may expand someday!

I've had nothing but headaches since getting Comcast. Rates raise on a whim, it seems. Credits are promised for having no and/or bad service, but never delivered without a fight. The service people are nice, but say things like, "Freezing is all over town," as if that makes it okay, or "Your signal is really strong", as if that means anything wrong is a hallucination. Since getting Comcast, I've had 2 months without a problem in 13 months. I can't recommend them.

I switched from Fairpoint to Comcast for phone and internet last summer and have yet to have a problem. I'm very satisfied with their service.

    Peace,

I signed up with Comcast's "triple play": phone, internet and tv, about a year ago. I have yet to experience any problems. I'm very happy with it!

Back when it was Adelphia vs. Verizon, there was absolutely no question. Cable is faster, and in most cases less likely to fail. And I'd say, in a way, it still is Adelphia vs. Verizon.

We have had no problems with our cable whatsoever. However, my husband is a Comcast employee, and if we DID have a problem? I would really, really dread how that might go. As I've said before, if you think Comcast customer service is bad, you should try dealing with the HR department in Philadelphia! My theory is that people who are so terrible at customer service that they really ought to be fired get sent to HR instead.

Fortunately, the systems are set up well enough that things usually go pretty smoothly on autopilot. I think that probably goes for any large telecom company, large bank, etc. If customer service is your priority, you should probably consider the advice of the person who suggested Sovernet. If we didn't get our cable for free, we would probably try to use a local company, especially since we don't even have TV and we just use a regular old landline phone.

I've had Comcast internet and cable for quite a while now with no problems. When I've called the 800# with questions the service was speedy and polite. The employees in our local Comcast office are so great. The cable reception is clear and internet high speed very fast. Yes, it's expensive once you've exceeded the sign-on deal but it's a service I enjoy and value. To me Comcast is worth it.

i have had no problems with Comcast whatsoever. They have gien me a good package deal and renewed it twice for me. The cable service has had problems on occasion but someone has always come out the next day to fix it up so no problems here I would highly suggest Comcast for phone, internet, and cable to anyone.

I went with Comcast as soon as my road was wired last year and much
better then Direct TV. 2 months ago I switched my phones as well going
with there bundle deal and Im saving over 100.00$ a month over
Fairpoint and AT@T,plus my basic cable and internet bill went down!
Screw Fairpoint....p.s. the few times I had to call customer service they
took care of the problem fast and its nice to know In dealing with an
American service center, not someone in Bangalore..

I don't think Fairpoint has TV service. They are competitors in internet and phone.

But yes, Virginia, there IS television! :)

As companies, both of them are pretty lousy.

Their local employees may be great, but perhaps
somewhat demoralized by working for these
    problematic corporations.

Cable internet can be faster but that depends on how
many of your neighbors are also using it at the same
    time. DSL is more consistent.

Sovernet is pretty good for phone and internet.
