is the title of the public program sponsored by the Brattleboro Branch, American Association of University Women, slated for 1 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 9 at the Brattleboro Savings and Loan Community Room, Main Street.
Participating are Deputy Jessica Cenate, of the Windham County Sheriff's Department, and Acting Police Chief Mary Beth Hebert of Vernon. They have been asked to describe how the role of the female police officer differs from that of the male police officer, and will be open to questions from the audience.
Deputy Cenate has been with Windham Co. Sheriff's Dept. since 2007. Recently she was one of three females in a 30-person class at the VT Police Academy in Pittsford. She is currently working as the School Resource Officer at the Bellows Falls Union High School in Westminster, and is about to start a Restorative Justice program at the school. During non-school hours, she patrols roads in assigned towns.
Chief Hebert has been a police officer for 17 years, five of which have been in Vernon. She was appointed by the Vernon Selectboard last October following the termination of former Chief Kevin Turnley. She is the only woman in the county leading a police department.
Hope to see you there - bring a friend!
